Insurance Information
Many of our patients have coverage under dental insurance. Often this coverage is supplied by the employer as a fringe benefit. In order to minimize your out of pocket expense we accept assignment of dental insurance. This means that if we can determine that your insurance will pay for a portion of your treatment we will accept payment for that portion directly from the insurance company. We file claims electronically so as to make this process as efficient as possible. On occasion we will ask the insurance company for a “pre-authorization” to determine how they will cover certain procedures. This is not a guarantee by them to pay, but is a good guide as to the coverage available.
We no longer participate in HMO or DMO (dental maintenance organization) type dental plans. These are not insurance plans, but are arrangements with participating providers to charge a discounted fee. We believe our fees are fair and justified by the level of service we provide, and we cannot discount them on a broad basis without sacrificing quality.
We do participate in a selected few PPO (preferred provider) insurance plans. These have been determined to provide adequate compensation to maintain our service levels for all patients. If you have PPO coverage which we do not participate in, you may still use it in our office as dental insurance, although your coverage may be a bit less than if you use a participating provider. The difference between an HMO and a PPO is this ability to use providers outside the network and still have coverage.
There are many and varied insurance contracts and we try to help you understand yours. However, your coverage is a contract between you (or your employer) and a third party. We cannot guarantee accuracy of estimates of coverage. Often there are deductibles to be met, maximums of coverage and exclusions.
We will provide you with all financial information before starting treatment, but our responsibility is to you not your insurance company and you assume obligation for all fees not covered by insurance.
